The market for luxury goods in China composes a significant proportion of all luxury goods sales worldwide. Since 2012, China has become the world’s largest luxury market.

Most consumers in China buy luxury products as a status symbol. At one point, government agencies even purchased luxury goods to use as “gifts” until a ban was instituted.

Thanks to years of relocating for foreign companies, Chinese factories now have the skills needed to copy almost everything. This has led to the enormous counterfeit phenomenon which is closely linked with brand culture.

Because the Chinese buyers are worried about fake goods made in their own country, they often turn to shop overseas. As a result, Many shops in international travel destinations, especially in Europe, now have hired staffed fluent in Mandarin and have specialized service devoted to Chinese customers.
