“The lithograph titled Kinngait is the product of my recent time as the West Baffin Cooperative's 2025 Artist in Residence. This residency took place between September 21st and Oct 6th, on site at the remarkable Kenojuak Cultural Centre and Print Shop in Kinngait, Nunavut. A result of direct observation and deep appreciation for the landscape in which I was immersed, I developed a composition that edges the margin of the paper, a sort of dance with the perimeter; a suggestion of boundlessness. I wanted to reflect the dynamism of the landscape, one absent of trees, and due to this, full of a type of undulation that trees can often obscure. The variation of texture and the newness of types of foliage I had only encountered in photographs or via word of mouth were set against a sense of weight and weightlessness that was the product of particular light and atmospheric shift that I further describe in drawings made during this same two-week period. Ultimately, this is a portrait of a place that is also a reflection on its people who are endlessly in love with their land and particularly gifted in portraying and giving the world a sense of its magic.” – Zachari Logan, November 2025
