Churla Mitchell, is a multi-media artist. She creates wearable art, visual art, and performance art. Churla is inspired by Nature and Magic. She uses natural techniques, such as natural dyes, watercolours, and encaustic wax. Churla, also, uses materials that are considered “disposable’ or ‘garbage’ by society. Her work has been displayed in diverse spaces, like window galleries to tunnels to public streets. She was a founder and curator of The Purple Institution, a multi-purpose gallery in Parkdale, Toronto. Through her efforts, shows toured to New York City and Montreal. Churla curated and served on the Board of 7a11d Performance Arts Festival in Toronto. Churla is a talented seamstress, gardener, interior decorator, cook, and baker.
